the past A long time ago, people were obliged to go across
the river through wades. Those lost
their interest years after years. So,
a system of light and mobile bridge
was developed. It was a kind of narrow
gangplank made of straw mat on trestles. This kind of bridge is called nowadays the “Claies” bridge, easy to assemble during the low level of water,
and to deconstruct during winter. It
has its origin in the 19th century, and allows the villagers to go
straight to their fields, and to bring the harvest more easily. In the area, you can see another bridge, similar to
this one, nearby the village of “Laforêt”. This one is
built up every year from June to September. |
